Vietnam does not have enough rehabilitation practitioners to meet health care needs, particularly in remote communes and villages. USAID’s Advancing Medical Care and Rehabilitation Education has developed an open-source multidisciplinary rehabilitation software, OpenTeleRehab, to strengthen rehabilitation care and alleviate practitioner shortages by connecting patients with therapists. The program allows patients to participate in the design and tracking of their treatment plan and utilizes chat, audio or video calls for consultations. Launched on September 29, practitioners from nine key hospitals in target regions are expected to participate.

The development and effective deployment of the rehabilitation software will help increase access to care for remote patients, enhancing the availability and quality of rehabilitation services, and leading to improved quality of life for people with disabilities in Vietnam.
