With over 13,000 health care facilities, Vietnam faces significant environmental challenges in the safe disposal of medical plastic waste. On September 19, USAID supported the Center for Health Environment Research and Development to sign an MOU with the Binh Dinh Hospital in Quy Nhon to improve the hospital’s capacity to sort plastic waste, increase recycling, and reduce infectious waste entering the environment.
This is the first such initiative by a private health care facility in Vietnam and makes Binh Dinh Hospital one of three hospitals in Vietnam to join USAID’s initiative to pilot a circular economy model on medical plastic waste management, reducing plastic waste in the health care sector.
