Press Release

Over the previous week, Bosnia and Herzegovina has left a bold impression on the United States travel scene. With the support of the U.S. government through USAID's Developing Sustainable Tourism in Bosnia and Herzegovina (USAID Turizam) project, Bosnia and Herzegovina travel industry representatives presented the country’s stunning tourism offerings to the U.S.-based travel industry leaders and media.. Aimed at raising the BiH’s profile as a must-visit destination, the tourism roadshow opened new horizons for adventure seekers, culture enthusiasts, and travel professionals in the United States.

In partnership with Turkish Airlines, the Foreign Trade Chamber of Bosnia and Herzegovina (FTC), and Visit Sarajevo, the roadshow hit two of the most iconic cities in the United States, New York and Los Angeles. These two vibrant cities hosted a series of exclusive events designed to showcase Bosnia and Herzegovina's diverse array of experiences—from the breathtaking landscapes and hidden gems of the country's natural beauty to its rich tapestry of cultural traditions and mouth watering cuisine.

Bosnia and Herzegovina has so much to offer, yet remains a hidden treasure for many international travelers,” noted USAID Turizam Chief of Party Fedja Begović. This roadshow was our chance to shine a spotlight on our country’s exciting tourism scene, which many in the U.S. are just beginning to discover.”

A New Chapter in Bosnia and Herzegovina’s Tourism Story

The roadshow wasn’t just about promoting a destination; it was about creating connections. Twelve of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s leading Destination Management Companies (DMCs) met face-to-face with U.S. travel agents, tour operators, and industry leaders to explore collaborative opportunities. This networking laid the foundation for future partnerships that will see more American travelers experiencing the magic of Bosnia and Herzegovina firsthand.

We are very pleased to be in New York. First of all, I would like to thank USAID, the Sarajevo Canton Tourism Board, Turkish Airlines, and the Foreign Trade Chamber of BiH, who made all of this possible. The feedback from the agents and agencies we have met with has been excellent. They are excited that we came to present BiH for the first time. The USA is a very large market, not only for the overall economy but also for tourism. I hope that tourists will start coming in large numbers, especially since they tend to spend more money and are excellent guests. As for us, I believe our hoteliers are ready, and as a new Hilton is opening in Mostar, Marriott is still in the works, I hope this will attract more U.S. tourists to our market,” noted Mili Bijavica, owner of BiH tourism agency Fortuna Travel.

The U.S. market is the second-largest outbound tourism market in the world, with American travelers known for their interest in unique, off-the-beaten-path destinations. For Bosnia and Herzegovina, establishing these direct connections with U.S. travel agencies represents a golden opportunity to transform the country's tourism industry.

Roberta Kravette, co-owner of US tourism agency Destination Wildlife: “We specialize in birding and wildlife and nature tours in undiscovered regions and we are very excited about BiH. Nature is absolutely extraordinary. I can't wait to bring people there, I can't wait to show people your flora and fauna. I've been hearing about the national parks, about the wellness pools, lakes, and we are very excited.”
