On April 20, Administrator Samantha Power met with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) Executive Director Catherine Russell to discuss ongoing coordination to combat child wasting, accelerate progress on maternal and child survival, and strengthen primary health care to end preventable maternal, newborn, and child deaths within a generation.

Administrator Power and Executive Director Russell also discussed their grave concerns about the deteriorating situation in Sudan and the safety and security of our staff,  humanitarian partners, and the Sudanese people.  They further discussed their concerns about ways to continue to reach women and girls in Afghanistan in the wake of the reckless and unconscionable decrees issued by the Taliban to further restrict the participation of women in humanitarian aid delivery.

Finally, Administrator Power lauded UNICEF’s initiative on localization.  The Administrator and Executive Director agreed to collaborate further on the participation of local actors and organizations in our work.
