The United States Announces More Than $74 Million in Additional Humanitarian Assistance for Vulnerable People in Burma, Bangladesh, and the Region

Today, the United States, through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and the U.S. Department of State, announced more than $74 million in additional humanitarian assistance for vulnerable populations in Burma, Bangladesh, and the region. This includes support for Rohingya who remain in Burma, Rohingya refugees sheltering in Bangladesh, their generous Bangladeshi host communities, and other communities affected by the 2021 military coup d’état in Burma and the escalating violence that has followed. This additional funding brings the total U.S. humanitarian assistance for these populations to more than $2.1 billion since the outbreak of violence in August 2017. 

With this new funding, the United States is providing health care; nutrition assistance; shelter; safe drinking water, sanitation, and hygiene support; protection services for the most vulnerable; multipurpose cash to meet basic needs; and other critical support for relief operations in Burma, Bangladesh, and the region.

The United States continues to be steadfast in its efforts to deliver assistance to crisis-affected communities in and outside of Burma. We urge other donors to join us in stepping up to provide additional assistance to vulnerable people.
