Today, Administrator Samantha Power met with David Malpass, President of the World Bank Group (WBG), ahead of his travel to Sudan, Jordan, Israel, and the West Bank. Administrator Power shared USAID’s approach to and work in these areas, and welcomed his thoughts on how the Agency and the World Bank can continue to work together to advance solutions to the development challenges in these regions.
Administrator Power advocated for continued support for the democratic transition in Sudan, and the two discussed how to work together along with other partners to deliver critical assistance to Afghans, including health care services. Administrator Power discussed the recent White House COVID-19 Summit, encouraging the World Bank to move resources to countries in need with urgency, speed, and flexibility.
