A recent evaluation of USAID/Vietnam’s TB support implemented from 2019 to 2023 found that this work played a significant role in supporting Vietnam to identify and treat people with TB. USAID partnered with the GVN to introduce and roll out new innovations and best practices to improve TB detection, treatment, and management, increasing TB detection in priority provinces by 15%. In comparison, the TB detection in non USAID-supported provinces only increased by 1.2%. USAID's support contributed significantly to increased sustainability of and access to TB services by supporting the GVN to make them covered services under the country's national health insurance plan, Social Health Insurance (SHI).
By the end of 2023, 100% of public treatment facilities, from national to district levels, were providing TB services under SHI. The evaluation recommends that USAID continue to prioritize case finding and diagnostic system strengthening.
