Cattle grazing inside Vietnam’s protected areas is a threat to these important ecosystems, but solutions to this must take into account livelihoods of local communities. USAID supported the Multi-Stakeholder Management Committee (MSMC) of the Elephant Species Habitat Conservation Area in Quang Nam Province to hold dialogues between district authorities, women's union representatives, commune leaders, and cattle ranchers, to explore solutions for controlling livestock numbers and gradually reduce the impacts of grazing within the protected area.

The MSMC is a forum for district authorities to understand the perspectives of the local communities in developing sustainable solutions, ensuring both the livelihoods of the communities and the safeguarding of biodiversity.
