In 2023, the Dong Nai Provincial Lung Hospital conducted a TB case survey as part of Vietnam’s National Tuberculosis Program. This survey identified that over 3,500 TB patients had been treated in the province, ranking it among the top four provinces with the highest TB burden in Vietnam. In partnership with the National Tuberculosis Program and the hospital, USAID conducted a study to determine which health facilities would benefit most from support. Two provincial hospitals and four out of 12 district-level TB units were prioritized for evaluation. The assessment reviewed each facility’s organizational structure, human resources, general medical examination processes, TB detection and treatment methods, and TB care under the country’s social health insurance plan. As a result, five health facilities were selected to receive USAID support to strengthen their TB programs.
By adding Dong Nai to USAID’s list of prioritized TB provinces and scaling up TB programs, early detection and effective treatment of TB will improve, contributing to Vietnam’s goal of eliminating TB by 2035. [Support to End TB project]
