Cristina is dedicated to helping ensure girls and women around the world have access to the right conditions for better participation in their daily activities and access to diverse opportunities. This commitment grew out of research Cristina began as a teenager when she began supporting research on child labour and how to improve sexual and reproductive health in Sofala and Maputo provinces in Mozambique. Eventually, this interest led to her design and adaptation of the School Toilet Operation, Management and Maintenance Guide as part of a broader emphasis in improving access to better Water, Sanitation and School Hygiene (WASH). These efforts reached the school community and directly supported the design and official launch of the National Management and Menstrual Hygiene and Management Package implemented under the DREAMS initiative for more than 150,000 adolescents, youth, and adults. Cristina remains focused on helping to ensure all girls and women in Mozambique and in the world achieve menstrual dignity, a critical part of adequate water, sanitation, and infrastructure conditions.
