The 2024 YALI Mandela Washington Fellowship (MWF) Summit celebrated 10 years at the Summit. Among the 700 Fellows in attendance included 150 participants who also graduated from one of the four USAID Regional Leadership Centers (RLC). At the event, USAID’s Deputy Administrator Isobel Coleman participated in a “Fireside Chat” and emphasized how USAID works to tackle youth unemployment, encourage civic participation, and ensure that all youth have the chance to reach their full potential. The Bureau for Africa’s Assistant Administrator Dr. Monde Muyangwa participated in a panel discussion on U.S.-Africa policy with representatives from the State Department and Prosper Africa. In addition, the West-Africa Dakar YALI Regional Coordinator, Malick Diop, gave a presentation on the RLC leadership training courses and activities with Rakia Abdoulaye Issa Boubé, a YALI MWF and RLC alum from Niger (see our Alumni Spotlight for more information on Rakia.). Carrie Stokes, USAID Chief Geographer and GeoCenter Director, also presented information on how USAID uses geospatial data and technology to improve development outcomes in Africa and around the world.
