In July, the USAID RLC for Southern Africa celebrated the graduation of the third Education Changemakers cohort through a partnership with the Trevor Noah Foundation that started in 2020. The event honored the 46 new YALI Education Changemakers alumni from 12 different countries across Southern Africa. The curriculum provides young leaders in the education sector with leadership skills, tools, a network of support, and resources to transform their schools and communities. The Education Changemakers program consists of four weeks of in-person leadership training followed by coaching and mentoring, small grants to support school-based initiatives, and a connection to an alumni network of like-minded young leaders across the African continent. While the Education Changemakers leadership training is currently only offered at the YALI RLC for Southern Africa, USAID and the Trevor Noah Foundation are exploring opportunities to expand the partnership to the RLC in East Africa next year.
