Yemen’s school-age children represent nearly 33 percent of the country’s overall population and their access to proper sanitation is critical. Lack of proper bathroom facilities at schools in Yemen’s Taiz governorate meant students had to interrupt their school day to walk home and miss their lessons. USAID partnered with CARE to renovate bathroom facilities in 14 schools, benefiting almost 10,000 students and teachers. Now, thousands of students can enjoy a learning environment that supports their health, attendance, and overall well-being. This is one of the many ways that USAID works to support education and water and sanitation access in Yemen.
