Press Release

Vahdat, Tajikistan, November 9, 2022 – To help Tajikistan reduce tuberculosis transmission and keep Tajik families healthy, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) provided Tajikistan’s National Reference Laboratory a new Laboratory Information Management System. This system will help the National Reference Laboratory manage data reported by Tajikistan’s network of tuberculosis laboratories in real time.  The system includes specially tailored software and equipment valued at $309,000.  By using the new system, the Tajikistan’s National Reference Laboratory can automate workflows, integrate instruments, and manage samples and associated information.  This contributes to more efficient testing and better patient outcomes.

USAID adapted and installed the Laboratory Information Management System to fit Tajikistan’s specific laboratory requirements and procured a server and computer equipment enabling implementation of the system. The system will be operational in the National Reference Laboratory by the end of 2022 and will be introduced in regional laboratories during 2023.

“Tajikistan’s doctors are helping keep families healthy every day.  We are proud to support them as they reduce tuberculosis transmission.  Our assistance and cooperation help to ensure that every person sick from TB is tested and treated with high quality services.”  noted Christopher Barrett, USAID/Tajikistan’s Health Office Director.
