In August and September 2022, USAID’s “Raising Voices Creating Opportunities - II” project provided training on working with persons with disabilities to 100 public bus drivers, bus assistants, and bus managers in the provinces of Quang Tri, Thua Thien Hue, and Quang Nam. The public transit personnel gained new skills, including how to support customers with disabilities and how to properly use the USAID-funded accessibility features in their regular buses, such as handrails, loudspeaker, LED screens, GPS systems, and mobile ramps in two-story tourist buses in Hue City in particular. The GPS systems track and announce destinations to help persons with vision impairments prepare to exit the bus. In addition, USAID supported the launch of two new accessible bus stops in Hue City.
Increasing the installation and use of accessibility features in provincial public transport supports greater inclusion of persons with disabilities in their communities and improves their quality of life.
