Fostering a Culture of Scientific Integrity at USAID and Beyond
Scientific integrity is the adherence to professional practices, ethical behavior, and the principles of honesty and objectivity when conducting, managing, using the results of, and communicating about science and scientific activities. Inclusivity, transparency, and protection from inappropriate influence are hallmarks of scientific integrity. Fostering a culture of inclusivity, transparency and protection from inappropriate influences in science is an indispensable part of the work done at USAID. Scientific integrity is a core responsibility of everyone:
proposing, conducting, or reviewing science for USAID;
communicating about USAID’s science and scientific activities;
managing or supervising USAID-funded scientific activities; or
using scientific information in decision-making at USAID.
